Morgan Powerhouse Cranes Promote Green Energy

Hydro-electric project in Kentucky expected to add 350 megawatts of power to region.
(ALLIANCE, Ohio) April 25, 2013 – The first of four new Morgan Engineering powerhouse cranes is being erected near Hawesville, Ky., for American Municipal Power (AMP).
Morgan is building the four new cranes for AMP’s hydro-electric power expansion project. The cranes will be used to handle the hydro-electric turbine assemblies during initial installation and periodic maintenance. Each crane spans nearly 200 feet and is built in sections to allow for shipping. The cranes are rated to lift 175 tons on their main hooks and 80 tons on their auxiliary hooks.
AMP hopes to add more than 350 megawatts of new, renewable power generation to the region. Facilities will be installed on existing dams on the Ohio River in Cannelton, Smithland, Willow Island and Meldhal.
